I bought your fonts, do I own them now?
Well no, sorry dudes! Firstly, congratulations on your incredible taste, we hope they serve you well. Secondly, here’s a quick overview on how font licensing works...
Fonts are software, so it’s like paying for photoshop or something similar. When you make a purchase from us, what you pay for is a license to use those specific font files within whatever set of circumstances you define at the point of sale. It could be as small as a basic desktop license for 5 devices, maybe you want to use it on a website too, or even something more expansive. Whatever set up you select and pay for is governed by the EULA you received when you downloaded the files.
heading: Wait, what is a EULA?
Wait, what is a EULA?
EULA stands for “End User License Agreement”. The EULA is a binding contract between you and us (Studio Buchanan) that takes effect the moment you download our font software. It states the degree to which you are licensed to use the font files you have purchased.

What kind of license do I need?
Well that depends on what you want to do, but normally the standard desktop license will suffice! If you’re after print work, branding and general design work then you probably want a desktop license. If you want to use the fonts online or in a website, then you’ll need a web license. Anything other than that – get in touch with us and we can help you out!

Can the license owner and purchaser be different?
Yes of course, but consider who will be using the fonts. Anybody who uses the fonts will need their own license, so if you're buying it solely for your client, you won’t need a license. More often than not, the work is undertaken by an agency and so they hold the license, however your client wants to use it in their own powerpoint presentation (for example) then they will need a license too.
heading: Can I share my license?
Can I share my license?
Afraid not dudes! Licenses cannot be shared, however the basic desktop license does allow for installation on 5 separate devices as standard. As long they’re all owned by the licensee, then you’re good.

Do you offer extended or custom licensing?
We sure do! We know that every situation is unique, and every client has a different set of requests. Whether it’s global territories, large scale digital ad campaigns… Or something else entirely. Send us a message with as much information as possible and we can help shape a license that works for you.

We love to helping students, and we’re happy to support you in your final projects! Let us know a little bit about your project and we’ll see how we can help. But, if we give you free fonts, we assume that you’ll be sending us a copy of how it’s used...
heading: How do I install your fonts?
How do I install your fonts?
It should be fairly straight forward, but here’s what we would recommend:
If you’re using a windows machine, simply navigate to the folder Windows > Fonts on your local hard rive (usually the C: drive) and put the individual OTF files in there.
If you’re on a Mac machine, then we advise opening the application Font Book, click on File > Add Fonts. Find the font files, select them and click “Open”.

Can I use your fonts to make a logo?
Yes you can! But it’s probably best to outline the type, as font files themselves cannot be shared. It's also worth considering whether you might need some professional pointers from a type professional! We offer a range of custom services, we also answer our emails, so get in touch if you have a project you'd like to talk about! Use of our type as the sole entity of a trademark registration is prohibited. Other limitations on editing can be found in our EULA.

Do you offer trial fonts?
Well, we have a pretty extensive TypeTester on every typeface page, giving you access to all the fonts have to offer... But we get it, sometimes that's not enough. So yes, we do offer trial fonts. However our trial font licenses differ from our standard EULA, and only permit the installation on one device.
Head over to our Trial Fonts page and read the Studio Buchanan Honesty Code™ for usage guidelines and how to get them.

We’d LOVE that. Thanks! We’re alway curious to see what you crazy creatives cook up with our products, and we do our best to show it off to the world from our channels too.
Send us an email, with your name/studio name, your social details, and a little bit about the project. By submitting your work to us, you give us the right to utilise the work in our social channels.

Ok, don't panic... Accidents can happen. First of all, we're sorry that the font in question is not performing the way you imagined. Do you offer refunds?
Unfortunately not *sad trombone*. Sadly there is no way for us to verify whether you still hold copies of the digital assets. As a result, all purchases are final and the font files cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged. Make sure to check your cart before committing to a purchase.
